We are seeking a Category Manager. Working directly for the Director of Corporate Procurement, the successful candidate must understand and coordinate Patheon’s vendor base and spend across a strategically focused category area. He/she must develop an in-depth knowledge of the assigned categories, suppliers and product cost drivers, generate understanding of global / regional demands and sourcing constraints, run sourcing projects & events, negotiate and execute “Preferred” Corporate Supply Agreements based on concept of Total Cost of Ownership principles. The candidate will also, establish, through the deployment of Lean / Six Sigma techniques, tangible “Continuous Improvement” initiatives with key preferred suppliers.

Key JOB SCOPE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide strategic leadership and direction to the operational (site) purchasing groups. 
• Establish roadmap of annual category objectives, strategies and projects. Track and report project progress and project savings via EPM (electronic project management tool)
• Deploy appropriate sourcing techniques (e.g. tenders to auctions) to ensure optimal category savings
• Rationalize and leverage the vendor base on a category basis
• Establish operational supplier metrics to deliver objective “Supplier Relationship Management”
• Establish and manage senior executive relationships within the category supply base
• Oversee and / or directly manage supplier quality issues and disputes
• Support and promote the internal Patheon business groups with supplier / supply chain rationale and direction
• Leverage synergies and build strong links within the “Corporate Technology Group” – comprised of global IT, Engineering, Patheon Advantage™ (Lean / Six Sigma) and Procurement / Supply Chain
• Contribute and help in the continuous evolution of internal policies and procedures

Qualifications

• Higher Education degree or Business Administration diploma
• Minimum 5 years experience in related field within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
• Must be well organized and able to work independently
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
• Strong inter personnel and communication skills (both oral and written)
• Capable of working across different geographical demographics and cultures
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects on a global basis
• Ability to travel as required to sites, conferences and vendor locations
• Must be familiar with purchasing of cartons, pallets, labels, blister packaging, bottles, etc

Nice to Have:

• Pharmaceutical production environment strongly preferred
• Pharmaceutical packaging product experience strongly preferred
• Professional purchasing certification
• Knowledge of SAP
• Previous experience with procurement across pharmaceutical categories
