Case Study: Continued Success with Lifecycle Management Services
The Challenge A marketed adult tablet was reported to have an extremely bad taste and after taste. The customer came to Patheon for taste masking to improve patient compliance, and explore line extension into the pediatric market.
The Solution Several techniques such as tablet coating, multilayer polymer coating, multiparticulate systems were evaluated. Particle coating with taste masking agents and compression of multiparticulates into a tablet was found to be the most promising approach. A custom bitter masking system was developed by flavor optimization specialists utilizing taste panels.
The Outcome The improved taste-masked product opened the door to a patent extension and exclusivity in the pediatric market.
